Symphony Egg

Theo Fabergé's SYMPHONY EGG stands as testimony to the vigorous relationship between different sectors of the arts. Craftsmanship and design are the natural inheritance to the only living grandson of Russian Imperial jeweller Carl Fabergé. It is, however, the common goal of artistic expression which brings together the world of the jeweller and that of the musician.

The SYMPHONY EGG is free blown in lead crystal. Surmounting the creation is the Russian Imperial Crown set with a cabochon ruby. Lattice work decorated with 24 karat gold is engraved between the hand-enamelled ruby panels of the top. The famous swags synonymous with the Fabergé family's work are engraved and gilded on the rich black enamel of the base.

Open the Egg to reveal the surprise; the conductor on his podium, baton aloft and shock of hair erect, stands poised to direct the four sections of the orchestra. A kettle-drum complete with pedal and mute represents the timpani; a violoncello, the string section; the clarinet stands for wood wind, and the French horn represents the brass section.

Symphony Egg by Theo Faberge
A traditional British hallmark, the edition number and Theo's personal signature decorate the gold-plated, sterling silver floor of the orchestra - and in the family tradition a further secret is revealed as you touch and turn the baton. The theme of Tchaikovsky's Slavonic March is played, the haunting melody ending on a questing 5th - reproduced on the staves surrounding the conductor - and begging for eternal repetition.
